Tyler Crowley is mainly introduced to the story when he loses control of his van, on a particularly icey day, and so induces the famous scene where his van is careening towards Bella and Edward saves her from being killed. He then decides that to make up for almost killing her, he’s going to take her to the prom, and actually shows up at her house to pick her up, even though she is already on her way to the prom with Edward.
